Gabriel is the Founder and Director of Benson Oak, originally a boutique investment bank, latera private equity group which was the investor in AVG Technologies, a software antivirus company that became the first Central European company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Gabriel studied economics and international relations and has degrees from Brandeis University, The University of Chicago, and the University of Toronto. He began his international banking career at Bank of America where he spent15 years, half of it at the bank’s headquarters in the US and half as regional General Manager of Bank of America in Paris, Vienna and Frankfurt. After arriving to Czechoslovakia, Gabriel became a Vice Chairman and CEO of ČEZ, Czech energy company in which he led the company’s transformation and access to international capital markets, and later a Chairman and CEO of VSŽ in Slovakia, successfully restructuring and selling the company’s steel operations to U.S. Steel. Gabriel has also held board positions at ČSOB, Česká pojišťovna, and Slovenská sporiteľňa, and has been an advisor to the Czechoslovak government on economic transformation. Currently serves as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of MONETA Money Bank, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vaclav Havel Library and the a member of the Advisory Council at the Division of Social Sciences of the University of Chicago.
